You can afterwards map your own domain name to your DDNS name to access your synology with it and if you do that, you will be able to secure your synology with a Lets encrypt certificate (Https connections).
The point of the post is to provide dynamic ‘A’ records to the Synology DNS server from the DHCP server ALSO running on Synology. And so an IP address provided via DHCP on a Synology NAS to any networked device including some Apple iDodad will work as expected. DNS-O-Matic is a third-party tool that provides a way to announce dynamic IP changes to multiple services. DNS-O-Matic allows a user to pick and choose what Dynamic DNS services to notify about the update and is configurable from a UI. Refer to the documentation for DNS-O-Matic. Unfortunately Synology has (still) not provided a working solution for this. I have been using a shell script to accomplish this, but it seems to work imperfectly in that after a while (days, weeks) my DNS server does not resolve my local addresses anymore, most likely because the shell scripts puts the dns records in an incompatible order.
